Residents and in-reach patients at Westbridge are now enjoying new kitchen appliances that are helping them build essential life skills and confidence as they prepare for independent living.

Thanks to SHINE funding, residents and in-reach patients at Westbridge are now enjoying new kitchen appliances that are helping them build essential life skills and confidence as they prepare for independent living.

The successful bid, submitted by Graeme, Assistant Practitioner, focused on upgrading the patient kitchen to better support individuals in learning how to cook, promote healthier eating habits, and develop daily living skills that will benefit them far beyond their time at Westbridge.

Empowering Through Practical Skills

The new appliances are already making a meaningful impact for both current residents and in-reach patients at Westbridge, a community residence in partnership with Tyne Housing.

Learning to Cook – The improved kitchen setup offers a safe, supportive environment for individuals to learn how to prepare meals, an important part of their rehabilitation and transition back into the community.

Promoting Healthier Choices – With proper appliances available, residents are encouraged to make healthier food choices, gaining knowledge about nutrition and cooking techniques that can improve their long-term wellbeing.

Preparation for the Future – These hands-on opportunities are especially valuable for those preparing to move into their own homes, helping ease the transition and build confidence in independent living.

About Westbridge

Westbridge is a community-based residential service offering assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for men and women over the age of 18 who are living with a mental disorder or learning difficulty and are considered at risk of causing harm to themselves or others. With 14 beds (12 full-time and 2 in-reach), Westbridge provides graded integration and support for individuals transitioning from hospital or prison back into the community.

By equipping the kitchen with modern appliances, Westbridge is better placed to deliver meaningful, real-world skill-building opportunities, helping residents take steps toward greater independence and healthier lifestyles.
