Cycle Hub, St Georges Park
SHINE provided funding to repurpose the Kiff Kaff into a Cycle Hub at St Georges Park.
The funds allowed the Occupational Therapy team to complete works for the refurbishment where the work carried out has helped create an all-weather environment where all patients on the St Georges Park site will greatly benefit from.
The refurbishment of the area has also provided the Occupational Therapy and Exercise therapy teams with a space to meet each week, discuss and plan cycle routes and goals for the session as well as running weekly 1:1 and group sessions with patients to assess functioning, interception, processing skills, balance, co-ordination, team work, task management, as well as communication and planning skills. A fleet of bikes was also purchased with funding from SHINE, supporting and encouraging patients to participate in physical activity which can now be sorted safely and securely in the Cycle Hub.
A space where we can still participate in cycling related activities if the weather is raining/snowing.

The benefits of the cycle hub have created multiple benefits for everyone who accesses the area:
• Complete bike maintenance sessions by training some of our OT staff in bike maintenance and then for them to train the patients.
• Plan day trips to local areas of interest by using maps and route finders
• Encouraging patients and staff to carry out M checks each time before the ride to insure each bike is in good condition and safe.
• A warm dry area for patients to meet and socialise with each other sharing cycling interests and previous experience prior to hospital admission.
• A space where we can still participate in cycling related activities if the weather is raining/snowing.
