Therapy workbooks, Royal Victoria Infirmary
Thanks to funding from SHINE, patients using our Richardson Eating Disorder Service’s now have access to therapy manuals that can significantly enhance their recovery journey.
REDs is a specialist eating disorder unit, is a specialist inpatient ward based at the RVI in Newcastle, which provides comprehensive assessment and treatment for eating disorders and is part of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust.
Katherine Crosby, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, highlights the impact of these manuals, which patients can work through with their therapist, as part of a group, or as a guided self-help activity. The manual is designed to help patients explore the origins of their eating difficulties, understand what sustains these challenges, and set personal goals for their recovery.
Patients can use this book as an ongoing reference point when they are struggling.

By using the manual, patients can gain insight into their condition and feel empowered to actively engage in their own treatment. The resource also provides a structured and supportive approach to working through complex issues that are often hard to address.
With the addition of these therapy manuals, patients have an important resource they can continually rely on, making the recovery process more accessible and tailored to their individual needs.
