Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) will be cheering on a member of staff at this year’s Paralympics.
Lived experience lead Gregg Stevenson will be competing in the PR2 mixed pairs Paralympic rowing event.
The heats are on Friday 30 August, with the final on Sunday 1 September.
PR2 is for rowers that have functional use of their arms and trunk but have weakness or absence of leg function.
Gregg served in the army and was on his first tour in Afghanistan when he stepped on an explosive device, losing both his legs.
After his discharge from the army, Gregg found a new passion for rowing. He has since become World Champion and two times European Champion.
Now, he is preparing to go to Paris for this year’s Paralympic Games which start on Wednesday 28 August.
Gregg’s team wanted to wish him good luck ahead of the race.
“We’re so proud of Gregg’s incredible achievements and would like to wish him the best of luck. We’ll all be cheering him on from home!” – from Jon Milford, Christina Thomson, Victoria Malone, Andy Airey, the Op COURAGE Partnership Board and all the Op COURAGE North of England teams.
Gregg said: “I’m incredibly proud to represent CNTW and Op COURAGE and appreciate all the support I have received. I am looking forward to racing and hope to do everyone proud!”
Now, Gregg works as lived experience lead for Op COURAGE North of England. Op COURAGE provides specialist care and support for those due to leave the armed forces, reservists and those who have already left. It has been developed by veterans, for veterans.
Gregg’s role ensures lived experience is considered in making decisions about care for the veteran community. This includes running focus groups, specialist training and contributing to developing research and clinical evidence.
Good luck Gregg!
