This leaflet will provide you with information that will help you during your stay on Aldervale, a high dependency unit based at Hopewood Park, Sunderland.

  • Introduction

    This leaflet provides you with information that you will find useful during your stay. If you are not sure about anything in this leaflet please ask a member of staff.

  • What is Aldervale?

    Alverdale is a High Dependency Unit based at Hopewood Park, Sunderland.

  • Who is it for?

    The service is for men over the age of 18 years who require a period of rehabilitation in hospital.

  • Why do I need to be here?

    It has been identified that you have a higher level of need, which requires a longer period of time in hospital to aid your recovery.

  • Arriving on Aldervale

    When you arrive you will be welcomed by a member of the care team. They will explain what will happen during your stay and give you supporting information. You will have time to settle in and have a look around your environment.

    A Welcome Pack is available with more information about your stay in hospital. Please ask ward staff for a copy if this is not given to you on admission.

  • How long will I be here?

    The length of stay depends upon your personal needs. The care team will discuss this with you.

  • What sort of things can I do at Aldervale?

    The activities will depend on what support you need for your recovery. Activities may include both social and recreational and will focus on developing new skills to manage your mental health.

  • Interpreters

    Staff can arrange an interpreter if you need one.

    Independent Advocacy
    As a mental health service user you are entitled to independent advocacy. Advocates can provide unbiased advice, attend meetings with you and make sure your views are listened to. A member of staff can also help you and provide you with contact telephone numbers.
