Edenwood – Information for patients, families and carers

This leaflet is for Edenwood at the Carleton Clinic in Cumbria - a unit for adults with learning disabilities who need specialist hospital care because of their behaviour and/or mental health.

  • About Edenwood

    Edenwood is based at Carleton Clinic, Carlisle and is part of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust.

    It is an assessment and treatment unit.

    The unit is for adults with learning disabilities who need specialist hospital care because of their behaviour and/or mental health.

    At Edenwood there are doctors, nurses and other professionals who will help you get better.

    • The ward has 4 bedrooms.
    • You will have your own bedroom with a shower and toilet.
    • Currently two bedrooms have a lounge next door to them.
    • There is a large bathroom.
    • There is a sensory room.
    • There is a shared lounge and dining area.
    • There are separate quiet areas. You can use these if you want to relax or just to
      have some quiet time on your own.
    • These rooms can also be used for therapeutic activities.

     

    During the nice weather you can use the garden.

    There are tables and benches in the garden. You can use this area to relax in.

  • Smoking policy

    The hospital has a no smoking policy on all wards and public places.

    No one, including visitors, is allowed to smoke anywhere on the site.

    Staff can help you to give up smoking.

  • Visiting times

    Families and carers are welcome to visit the ward.

    We have protected mealtimes between:

    • 12pm and 1pm
    • 5pm and 6pm

     

    We ask that families and carers avoid visiting during these times.

    You can use one of the small lounges to meet your visitors.

    Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)
    PALS provide confidential advice and support, helping you to sort out any concerns that you may have about any aspect of your or your loved ones care.

    We act independently when handling patient and family concerns, liaising with staff, managers and, where appropriate, relevant organisations, to negotiate prompt solutions. If necessary, we can also refer patients and families to specific local or national-based support agencies.
