What is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)?
Post-traumatic stress disorder: A common reaction to an extremely stressful event such as assault, accident, or disaster.
Common symptoms include:
- Unwanted distressing memories of the trauma, flashbacks or nightmares
- Feeling emotionally upset or having bodily reactions when reminded of the event
- Avoiding reminders of the event
- Feeling emotionally numb or detached from others
- Feeling alert, watchful or jumpy
- Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
What is the programme?
The programme is an online therapy specifically developed for people with PTSD. You can access the programme 24/7, meaning it is convenient, and you can work through it at your own pace and a time that suits you best. Working online means you can look back over any information at any point.
The therapy involves:
- Interactive therapy modules, tailored for both the main symptoms of PTSD and your personal needs
- Weekly phone calls with your therapist
- In-built messaging to your therapist
Is the programme suitable for me?
- Do you have a tablet/laptop, internet access and a private space to use it?
- Are you 18 or over?
- Is the PTSD you are experiencing from one or two traumatic events you experienced or several traumatic episodes during longer period of high threat as an adult or adolescent?
- Are you experiencing the symptoms above, including unwanted memories?
- Is PTSD your main reason for seeking treatment?
Talk to your GP if you have a history of borderline personality disorder, psychosis or severe self-harm, as a different form of treatment may be more suitable for you.
